Learning objectives

Declare variables and constants of type integer, real, char, string and Boolean, and choose the correct type for a stated item of data

Write programs that use the arithmetic operators, including integer division and the remainder after division, together with the relational and logical operators

Write programs that use sequence, selection with IF and CASE, and the FOR, WHILE and REPEAT loops, choosing the loop that best fits the task

Write and call a procedure and a function, pass parameters to each, and explain how a function differs from a procedure in what it hands back to the calling statement

Use the built-in string handling routines for length, substring and case conversion, together with the routines that read input and write output

Use the library routines MOD, DIV, ROUND and RANDOM, explain what a library routine is, and describe the benefits of using a tested library routine rather than writing the same code again
