Learning objectives

Select from the unseen questions the one that both studied works can genuinely answer, and reject a question that fits only one of them

Convert the question into a thesis that makes a claim about both works rather than restating the prompt

Prepare for the paper by revising two works closely enough to quote and reference accurately without a copy of the text in front of you

Structure the essay by point of comparison, and use each paragraph to develop an argument about authorial choice supported by evidence from both works

Address the question throughout, returning to its terms at the close of each paragraph so that the argument does not drift into general commentary

Write in the register expected of a formal essay, with accurate literary terminology and a conclusion that answers the question set
