Learning objectives
Carry out calculations with numbers written in the form a × 10ᵏ (1 ≤ a < 10, k an integer) and give answers in that form, with and without technology
Apply the laws of exponents with integer and rational exponents to simplify expressions and solve equations, including converting between radical and index form
Understand a logarithm as the inverse of an exponent, evaluate logarithms in base 10, base e and other bases, and evaluate logarithms using technology
Use the laws of logarithms for products, quotients and powers, and the change of base formula, to simplify and rewrite logarithmic expressions
Solve exponential equations analytically by taking logarithms of both sides, including equations that reduce to a quadratic in aˣ, and solve logarithmic equations, rejecting invalid solutions
