Learning objectives

Use the fifteen-minute reading period to read the prompt first, then annotate the provided sources for the position each one takes and the evidence it offers

Develop your own position on the issue and write a defensible thesis, rather than reporting what the sources collectively say

Incorporate evidence from at least the required minimum number of sources, and cite each one clearly by letter or by the author named in the source description

Use sources to support your reasoning rather than letting the essay become a tour of the sources in the order they were given

Read the visual or quantitative source with the same care as the written ones, and use it as evidence rather than mentioning it in passing

Bring in a source that complicates your position and explain why your argument survives it, which also serves the sophistication criterion
